Born and raised in New Jersey with proud Dominican roots, Kevin S. Cruz developed a deep passion for music from an early age. His musical journey began at just 10 years old in a local church in Perth Amboy, NJ, where he was captivated by the vibrant rhythms of Latin music. It was there that he honed his skills in percussion, laying the foundation for what would become a thriving professional career.
By the age of 16, Kevin’s talent and dedication earned him a spot in Nueva Era, one of the leading bachata bands of its time. This early breakthrough marked the beginning of a dynamic career that has since seen him perform alongside some of the biggest names in the merengue and bachata industry. Over the years, he has collaborated with renowned artists such as Toby Love, Mala Fe, Ramón Orlando, and many more, solidifying his reputation as a sought-after percussionist in the Latin music scene.
Kevin’s expertise lies in his mastery of traditional Dominican percussion instruments, particularly the Tambora, which has become his signature. His rhythmic precision, energy, and deep understanding of the genre’s roots allow him to bring an authentic and electrifying presence to every performance.
With over 20 years of experience, Kevin has traveled extensively, bringing the soul of merengue and bachata to audiences across the U.S. and beyond.
