Derrick Cabral
Derrick Cabral is a Boston-based Percussionist with an intense passion for all genres of music. His ability to incorporate hand percussion into various styles of music has molded him into the diverse percussionist he is today. Enriched with over 10 years of live performances, he has continued to refine his skills and stage presence.
Derrick studied with the notable Johnny Conga who is known for his work with artists like Santana, Sergio Mendes, Eddie Palmieri and Gloria Gaynor. As a member of the reggae band The Elovaters, Derrick has played throughout the States and performed at multiple festivals both in the US and in the Caribbean. He has shared the stage with numerous artists including Akon, Ziggy Marley, The Wailers, John Brown'ís Body and Stick Figure. The latest release with The Elovaters entitled "The Cornerstone" landed at #2 on the iTunes Reggae Chart and #9 on Billboard'ís Top Reggae Album Chart the week of its release.
Aside from being in The Elovaters, Derrick is the percussionist for Lift Ministries, a Boston-based ministry group that hosts and conducts praise and worship events throughout New England. Also, as the percussionist for the Jon Niven band, he has performed from coast to coast at several Catholic conferences. In addition to live performances, Derrick is also sought after for studio sessions by various musical acts in the New England area who seek to incorporate his flavorful style into their music.
