Eric Velez Signature Congas & Bongos:
Timeless Beauty, Edgy Tonality
The
new Toca Eric Velez Congas and Bongos are truly great instruments in feel
and sound. Take, for example, the quick fade from dark to grand, blond,
middle expanse then back again. It highlights the premium two-ply Asian
oak crafted into a contemporary broad-waist Afro-Cuban profile. Without
even laying hand to skin, you know these drums are going to utter warm,
deep exclamations. And the jeweler's touch is evident all over the shop,
particularly in the plating and placement of the black mirror chrome. Breathtaking
stuff, this is, and it's fully evocative of its namesake Eric
Velez, the young New York
veteran percussionist who has played with everybody from Mark Athony
to Eddie Palmieri. Eric Velez,
it is obvious, is a new leader on congas, as they discovered at
the prestigious Montreal
Drum Fest.
We've mentioned the sunburst fade, masterfully applied to plantation-grown
oak. Six tuners, as opposed to five, promote symmetrical"cross
lug" tensioning and ensure pitch stability. Black mirror chrome
Easy Play hoops provide secure seating of the specially matched
top grade natural bison heads. A nice "creature comfort":
the drums stand 28" tall, as opposed to 30", making long
performances easier for traditional seated congueros. Available
in 11", 11-3/4" and 12-1/2"
head sizes, Toca Eric Velez Congas and Bongos are premium instruments
that will grace any stage. Matching bongos in 7" and 9" diameters,
are also fitted with select bison skins, which are paired to deliver
the essential range from high, crisp slaps to throaty low-mids—to
deliver and to project those tones! Bongos compliment the congas,
down to shell finish and tension rods, plus note that bongos are
ribbed for an authentic, folkloric vibe—and for traditional
seated player comfort.
